Late Wednesday in Marrero, a man was shot near a local restaurant and rushed to a hospital with what deputies called life‑threatening injuries. The gunfire erupted in the area of Barataria Boulevard and Patriot Street, where deputies kept the intersection cordoned off into the late evening while investigators combed through the scene. No arrests had been reported in the immediate aftermath.
According to FOX 8, Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office Sgt. Brandon Veal said the victim suffered life‑threatening wounds and that "nobody is in custody" as detectives worked the case. FOX 8 crews reported seeing sheriff's deputies and investigators still on scene near the intersection at about 10:30 p.m. Investigators have not released a suspect description or any possible motive.
Where it happened and what investigators are doing
The latest shooting adds to a string of violent incidents on the West Bank this year. In February, detectives were already working a deadly shooting on Acre Road in Marrero, and other recent cases have kept Jefferson Parish deputies busy.
Detectives say they are following leads and reviewing any available surveillance, and they are asking anyone with information or video to contact the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office. The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office website lists phone numbers, tip guidelines, and instructions for submitting footage to investigators.
