A 50-year-old man is fighting for his life after a shooting last night on Indianapolis' near east side, where officers found him with injuries consistent with a gunshot wound in the 2000 block of East Washington Street. He was rushed to a nearby hospital in extremely critical condition, and police say they are still looking for whoever pulled the trigger.
According to FOX59, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were called to the scene on June 18 and reported that the victim was about 50 years old and described his condition as "extremely critical." The outlet noted that IMPD investigators remained at the scene, collecting evidence and canvassing for witnesses. No arrests were reported in the initial update.
What investigators say
IMPD's East District detectives are leading the case and are expected to review surveillance video, interview witnesses and process physical evidence as part of their standard shooting investigation. The city's police department, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, notes that detectives routinely canvass surrounding businesses and homes for video and tips in cases like this. Officials have not released any suspect description or a possible motive.
