A tense stretch in Richmond ended yesterday morning when police arrested a man they say carried out two armed robberies over the weekend and on Monday. Officers took the suspect into custody during a planned morning operation, and he remains held at the county jail while investigators continue working the case. The incidents led to a stepped-up patrol presence downtown as detectives chased down leads.
According to the Richmond Police Department, detectives identified Jordan Jarrett as the suspect and charged him with two counts of armed robbery (Level 3 felony), two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon (Level 4 felony), one count of criminal confinement (Level 3 felony) and two counts of intimidation (Level 5 felony). The department says first-shift patrol officers, working with detectives from the Investigative Services division, arrested Jarrett and processed both scenes as part of the investigation.
Investigators Trace Suspect to East Main Street Arrest
Detectives from the Investigative Services division responded to both incidents and processed the scenes, collecting evidence and following up on tips, according to the Richmond Police Department. The department reports that Jarrett was arrested Wednesday at approximately 10:04 a.m. in the 200 block of East Main Street and was lodged at the Wayne County Jail. The Wayne County Sheriff's Office lists the county correctional facility at 200 E. Main Street in Richmond.
Legal Implications
Under Indiana law, the charges Jarrett faces carry multi-year prison terms. A Level 3 felony is punishable by a fixed term of 3 to 16 years, a Level 4 felony by 2 to 12 years, and a Level 5 felony by 1 to 6 years, and courts may impose fines as well. Weapons offenses and statutory enhancements can increase that exposure, according to state sentencing statutes and guidance from the Indiana Department of Correction.
The Richmond Police Department thanked the Wayne County Emergency Operations Center for its assistance and reiterated that the charges are accusations, noting that Jarrett is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court. Investigators did not release additional details about motive, and anyone with information is asked to contact Richmond police.
