Heat Advisory Now Runs Through Friday
The National Weather Service has a Heat Advisory in effect across central Indiana through 8 p.m. Friday. Thursday will stay sunny with southwest winds of 5 to 8 mph, while the heat index peaks near 104 during the afternoon.
The latest advisory extends the threat beyond the timeline described in Hoodline’s Wednesday update. Thursday night will offer little relief, with a low around 75 and heat-index values still reaching as high as 102.
Storm Chances Return Late Friday
Friday will remain sunny and hot, topping out near 95 with another heat index around 104. A 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms arrives after 2 a.m. Friday night, followed by a 40% chance of storms Saturday as temperatures ease to around 90.
Forecasters say any storms reaching central Indiana late Thursday through Saturday could bring brief damaging wind gusts or hail, though the exact timing and coverage remain uncertain. New rainfall totals are expected to stay below a tenth of an inch in the current forecast.
Cooler Weekend, Another Warm-Up Ahead
Sunday brings a more noticeable break from the heat, with mostly sunny skies and a high near 84. Labor Day should be sunny and around 85, with Sunday night falling to about 63.
The warmth is expected to rebuild next week, reaching around 90 Tuesday and 92 Wednesday. Wednesday also carries a slight chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms, so the extended forecast is not done keeping outdoor plans on their toes.
