
A late Sunday night on Chicago’s South Side turned violent when a 22-year-old man was shot as he walked into a home in the South Shore neighborhood, authorities said.
The shooting happened around 11:05 p.m. in the 6900 block of South Clyde Avenue, according to police. The man was hit in the abdomen and taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was listed in serious condition.
Police: Man Hit While Stepping Inside
Chicago police told FOX 32 Chicago that the victim was walking into a residence when he heard gunfire and suddenly felt pain. Detectives from the department’s Area One unit were assigned to the case.
As of the time of the report, investigators had not released any suspect description or possible motive, and officials were keeping additional details under wraps while they worked the case.
Rushed to South Side Trauma Center
Paramedics took the wounded man to UChicago Medicine’s Hyde Park campus, which operates as a Level 1 adult trauma center for the South Side. UChicago Medicine notes that its trauma program is staffed around the clock to handle the most serious injuries and coordinates closely with first responders across the city.
Detectives Seek Tips as Case Remains Open
According to FOX 32 Chicago, detectives were asking anyone with information about the shooting to contact police. No arrests had been announced, and the investigation remained active as officers continued to chase down leads.
