Arlington Heights police are investigating a reported criminal sexual assault involving a teenage victim in the downtown Eastman Street municipal parking garage on Saturday afternoon. The teen, who came to police with a guardian, said the attack happened on the top level of the structure at about 3:30 p.m. The victim was taken to a local hospital for a precautionary medical evaluation, according to police.
What police say
In an initial statement released late Saturday, the Arlington Heights Police Department said the teen told officers an unknown man approached and asked for help with a vehicle. The teen entered the man’s car, described as an older gray sport utility vehicle, and the alleged sexual assault occurred inside.
Police described the suspect as a white man about 6 feet tall, weighing between 200 to 250 pounds, with dark hair. He was said to be wearing a black T-shirt and black athletic shorts. The department noted that the case is in its early stages and remains an active investigation, and that the victim was transported for a precautionary medical exam, according to ArlingtonCardinal.
Regional context
Parking garages around the Chicago area have seen other recent attacks, highlighting how enclosed structures can become risky, especially outside peak daylight hours. In late March, an assault inside a Loop parking garage led to felony charges and drew widespread media attention, an episode covered by local outlets including ABC7 Chicago.
