A 52-year-old man is fighting for his life after being shot multiple times late Saturday in Chicago’s West Englewood neighborhood, according to police. Officers rushed the victim to the University of Chicago Hospital in critical condition.
Chicago police say officers responding to the scene found a 26-year-old man who was quickly detained. Two firearms were recovered as part of the response, and Area One detectives have opened an investigation into the attack.
According to FOX 32 Chicago, police believe the younger man pulled a gun and fired several rounds at the 52-year-old before officers arrived. Detectives told the station the victim remained in critical condition at the University of Chicago Hospital and confirmed that two guns were recovered at the scene.

This latest shooting lands in the middle of a rough run for West Englewood. Earlier this month, a deadly drive-by in the neighborhood left two people dead shortly after midnight, adding to residents’ fears that the violence is becoming routine.
The state’s Office of Firearm Violence Prevention lists West Englewood among Chicago community areas with persistently high concentrations of shooting victims. That data is detailed in an annual report available on the Illinois General Assembly website.
