A Broward County home health aide is facing felony charges after deputies say she quietly pawned thousands of dollars in jewelry belonging to an elderly client who has since died. The arrest capped a nearly year-long investigation that began when the woman’s daughter realized several family heirlooms were missing, and, according to relatives and investigators, ended with a paper trail running through pawn shops across Broward County.
According to Local 10, the daughter first noticed items missing on Sept. 18, 2025 and eventually tallied more than $16,000 in jewelry. Among the pieces were a white-gold diamond and ruby necklace valued at about $3,850, a diamond heart bracelet, and several gold bangles and rings. Detectives say they later uncovered a series of pawn transactions that lined up with the missing items, including some that were allegedly pawned at Richie’s Pawn Shop in Tamarac. Arrest records identify the suspect as 60-year-old Christine Rolle of Sunrise, who was taken into custody Tuesday on counts that include grand theft larceny, fraud by providing false owner information to pawn items, exploitation of an elderly person, and dealing in stolen property.
How Deputies Say They Traced the Pieces
Investigators say they relied on pawn-shop databases and transaction records, combing through descriptions and photos to hunt for matches to the daughter’s list. That search, they say, turned up multiple sales tied to the aide. Several of the flagged transactions led them to a Tamarac pawn business that appears in local directories such as Kompass. Authorities have not said whether any of the specific stolen items have been recovered.
Charges and Legal Exposure
Rolle now faces a stack of felony counts that carry serious prison time and fines under Florida law. Exploitation of an elderly person is defined under Florida Statute §825.103, while grand theft and related larceny offenses fall under Florida Statute §812.014. The exact penalties would depend on how prosecutors decide to formally charge the case and what property values are ultimately proven in court.
A Familiar Worry in South Florida
Accusations that in-home caregivers are pawning or selling off clients’ valuables have surfaced repeatedly across South Florida this year, underscoring how vulnerable older adults can be when they depend on others inside their homes. Prosecutors are expected to review the arrest report before deciding whether to formally file charges. The victim’s daughter told detectives she plans to pursue the case on her late mother’s behalf.
