State police say a routine mail run on I-70 near downtown Indianapolis turned into a crime scene when an Indianapolis man allegedly fired several shots at a U.S. Postal Service semi-truck delivering mail along the interstate. The postal driver was not hit, and no nearby motorists were injured, but troopers say the incident briefly backed up traffic while they worked to piece together what happened. Investigators later identified a suspect, took him into custody, and booked him into the Marion County jail on felony charges.
Court records and investigators name the suspect as Bryan Hughes, who is charged with two felony counts of criminal recklessness for allegedly shooting at the moving mail truck on the interstate. According to state police, Hughes drove off in a Dodge Journey after the gunfire, and investigators used traffic cameras to track the vehicle, according to Fox59.
Troopers say Ohio police later found the Dodge and discovered a spent shell casing in the vehicle’s cup holder, and officers recovered a firearm at Hughes’s home that matched the description of the weapon used. Lebanon police in Boone County also arrested Hughes on a separate battery allegation after an incident at a Flying J on I-65, where he is accused of punching another driver while working for FedEx. Court filings show he received an $8,000 cash bond and remains under a Marion County Community Corrections hold. "The bottom line is that when we see these incidents go to violence, it is a priority for us. We will put all hands on deck to find the person responsible," John Perrine said, according to Fox59.
