An early Monday on Indianapolis’ far east side turned deadly when a man was shot at a home on Trent Court and later died at a hospital, police say. Investigators believe the violence stemmed from a disturbance between people who knew each other, and the scene remains under investigation.

According to WIBC 93.1 FM, officers were called around 5:20 a.m. to the 10000 block of Trent Court, near East 25th Street and North German Church Road. When they arrived, they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. He was listed in critical condition at first and later died from his injuries. Investigators told the station they believe gunfire started inside the home and continued near an entryway, and that a vehicle close to the house had a broken window and a flat tire.

What Investigators Say

Police say one person stayed at the scene and is cooperating with detectives, and a female witness has also provided information. Authorities have not yet released the victim’s name or said whether any charges have been filed, as detectives continue working to piece together what happened. Officers spent the morning documenting evidence and talking with neighbors in the area.

East-Side Context

This latest killing adds to a string of violence on the city’s east side this year. As WRTV reported in April, another east-side shooting left a man critically injured and later dead. Residents and community leaders have raised ongoing concerns about violence in parts of the east side.

How To Help

Anyone with information about the Trent Court shooting is urged to contact Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-TIPS (8477) or submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers. IMPD says it will release additional updates as the investigation moves forward.
