A GPS ping, a late-night yard visit, and a determined K9 team added up to a rough Sunday night for three men now facing burglary and felony theft charges in unincorporated Libertyville.
Lake County sheriff's deputies say they caught a burglary in progress late Sunday after the renter of a flatbed trailer called 911 to report it missing. The renter told dispatch the trailer was equipped with a GPS tracker, and that signal led deputies straight to a business yard where two people were loading construction equipment. A third suspect was eventually tracked down in a nearby forest preserve, and authorities say all three are now charged with burglary and felony theft in connection with the incident.
Owner's GPS Led Deputies To The Trailer
According to Lake County deputies, the 911 center received the call about the rented flatbed at about 11:20 p.m. The trailer's GPS placed it at a business in the 14200 block of West Rockland Road in unincorporated Libertyville. When deputies rolled up, they say they saw two men in the yard loading two skid steers onto the flatbed and determined the equipment was being stolen. Deputies recovered the stolen property at the scene, with the account and timeline laid out by the Lake County Sheriff's Office.
Names, Arrests And The K9 Track
Local reporting identifies the three suspects as Corey Dismukes, 56, of Chicago, Emmanuel Harper, 45, of Milwaukee, and James Yancey, 35, of Chicago Heights. Deputies arrested two of the men at the business, authorities say, and brought in K9 Simba to help find the third. After tracking a scent for about 1.5 miles, Simba led deputies to a man hiding in a nearby forest preserve, where they made the final arrest, according to FOX 32 Chicago. The station reports the Lake County State's Attorney approved burglary and felony theft charges for all three men.
