Deputies in Dania Beach are asking for the public’s help after surveillance video captured a woman pulling a handgun at a hotel entrance during what investigators say was a late-evening attempt to steal a car.
According to Local 10, the victim was loading items into her trunk when two people walked up and one demanded her car keys. When the victim refused, deputies say the woman pulled out a gun. The victim bolted into the hotel lobby for help while the armed suspect pointed the weapon into the doorway, then walked away.
Deputies say the incident happened Sunday just after 8 p.m. at a hotel near the 400 block of Gulf Stream Way in Dania Beach. Detectives said the subject was seen wearing a light-colored jacket, black shirt, black shorts and black slides, and was last spotted walking toward Griffin Road after pointing the gun into the lobby doorway. Investigators released the surveillance clip in hopes of shaking loose tips, and they have not announced any arrests.
What the video shows
Surveillance video captures the victim sprinting into the lobby and talking with employees as the armed subject lingers in the doorway. Deputies say the footage shows the suspect appearing to point the handgun at people inside before leaving.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office provided the clip to media partners in an effort to identify the woman seen in the video and to keep the case in the public eye while leads come in.
