A domestic dispute in a Speedway subdivision erupted into gunfire and a brief foot chase yesterday, ending with a person in custody on the nearby B&O Trail, according to police. Authorities said there were no serious injuries and no ongoing threat to the public.
Officers were called to the 5800 block of Cadillac Drive in the Cunningham Park housing subdivision after reports of a domestic disturbance involving gunfire. Several people at the scene were checked out by emergency medical personnel but declined further treatment after signing medical releases, according to WISH-TV.
Preliminary findings confirmed that shots were fired inside the home, police said. A person of interest took off on foot and was caught after a short pursuit on the B&O Trail in the 6000 block, WISH-TV reported.
Police Say Case Is Isolated, Probe Ongoing
Speedway police called the episode an “isolated incident” and said there was “no ongoing threat to public safety,” according to WISH-TV. Detectives were working to secure a search warrant for the residence as the investigation continued, and officials had not released details about possible charges, a weapon or the identities of those involved.
The B&O Trail is part of Speedway’s pedestrian network, connecting Leonard Park with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, according to the Town of Speedway. Police said additional information will be released as it becomes available.
