A gated Opa-Locka townhome community turned into a crime scene Monday night when a man was shot in the leg during an attempted robbery inside the Mirage at Sailboat Cove complex, police said. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue medics responded and treated the victim at the scene. Opa-Locka police have opened an investigation and urged neighbors to come forward with any information.
According to a police news release reported by Local 10, officers were called after several unknown men approached the man and attempted to rob him. One of the suspects fired a single shot that struck the victim in the leg, the release said, and the Opa-Locka Police Department's Criminal Investigations Unit is handling the probe. Local 10 noted that police released few details as the investigation continues.
Violence Not New At The Complex
The shooting adds to a string of incidents at the Mirage at Sailboat Cove. Hoodline covered the January ambush in a post titled Two Teenagers Shot in Ambush and earlier reported a 2024 delivery-driver killing at the complex, details that have left neighbors demanding more visible patrols.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Opa-Locka Police Department at 305-953-2877 or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477, per reporting by the Miami Herald. The police release urged residents to remain vigilant while investigators work to identify the suspects. As of late Monday night, authorities had not announced any arrests.
Police say investigators are pursuing leads and reviewing any available video or witness accounts. We will update this story as officials release more information.
