A tip about suspected drug dealing at an Indianapolis barbecue stand led police to two men, a smoker, and a haul of 14 firearms, according to court documents. Investigators also reported finding suspected methamphetamine, marijuana, and a scale during searches tied to the case.
WISH-TV reports that IMPD detectives stopped Robert L. Moore Jr. and Cornell McCall while the men and another person were pulling a barbecue smoker near East 38th Street and Emerson Avenue. The stop followed a tip alleging narcotics activity at the barbecue stand.
The filings say officers searched a van and found two loaded handguns, suspected methamphetamine, marijuana, and a digital scale. A later search of the men’s home allegedly turned up 12 additional guns and more marijuana, bringing the reported firearm total to 14.
Both Men Face Indiana Felon-In-Possession Charges
Moore and McCall were each charged in Marion Superior Court 32 with unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, a Level 4 felony. The Indiana Court of Appeals has summarized the statute as barring a person with a qualifying serious-violent-felony conviction from knowingly or intentionally possessing a firearm.
Moore also faces a methamphetamine-possession charge, while IMPD declined to provide booking photos for either man because the investigation remains active, WISH-TV reported. The allegations have not been tested at trial, and court proceedings will determine what evidence prosecutors ultimately pursue.
Another Major Gun Seizure Adds To Indianapolis Pattern
The case arrives amid a string of large firearm seizures in Indianapolis. In February, Hoodline reported that a north-side search warrant produced 47 guns along with suspected narcotics and two arrests.
Here, investigators say the weapons were recovered through a sequence that began with a neighborhood drug tip and a roadside stop involving a barbecue smoker. With the investigation still underway, additional charges or evidence could emerge as police finish processing the seized firearms and suspected drugs.
