An Indianapolis man convicted of choking, beating and robbing his former girlfriend is headed to prison for 43 years, after a jury found him guilty of three serious felonies tied to the attack.
According to WISH-TV, Dennis Patterson was found guilty on June 2 of criminal confinement, robbery resulting in bodily injury and domestic battery resulting in serious bodily injury. The Marion County Prosecutor's Office said Patterson was sentenced to 43 years and is being held by the Indiana Department of Correction.
Victim Suffered Multiple Fractures
A probable cause affidavit cited in the report says an Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department detective was called to assist with a domestic assault on Dec. 9. Investigators said Patterson choked his ex-girlfriend and stole her car during the incident.
The victim suffered multiple facial fractures, a fractured vertebra, a broken nose and bruising, according to the affidavit. The injuries were among the evidence presented in the case that led to Patterson's convictions.
Three Felony Convictions Follow Domestic Assault Investigation
The convictions covered the alleged restraint of the victim, the robbery that caused bodily injury and the battery that left her seriously hurt. With the 43-year sentence, Patterson will remain in state custody rather than return to the community after the violent encounter.
