What started as a shots-fired investigation on Tuesday ended with a boxed-in car, a wanted suspect in handcuffs, and a stash of weapons and suspected drugs off Indianapolis streets, according to police.
IMPD says officers tracked down a vehicle tied to the case, moved in with specialized units, and stopped the car before the driver could get away. The person behind the wheel, wanted on a Level 5 felony warrant, was arrested without incident and now faces multiple preliminary charges as detectives continue their work. Authorities have not yet released the suspect's identity.
How police say the arrest unfolded
According to WISH-TV, officers from IMPD's Southwest District violent reduction team joined forces with the Violent Crime Task Force to track down the suspect vehicle.
Once they had it in their sights, officers used a vehicle pin maneuver to bring it to a halt. That tactic, as described by the station, prevented the driver from fleeing and let officers take the person into custody without further confrontation. Investigators then processed the vehicle at the scene and coordinated collection of evidence tied to the ongoing shots-fired probe.
What officers recovered
In a post on its official social account, IMPD said officers recovered a loaded handgun along with suspected methamphetamine, suspected pills, and suspected marijuana from the vehicle. All of it was booked into evidence.
The department added that the person taken into custody was already wanted on a Level 5 felony warrant and now faces multiple preliminary charges while detectives dig through witness statements and physical evidence connected to the case.
What’s next
WISH-TV reported that Marion County prosecutors will review the case once detectives finish their file and submit it for charging decisions. The investigation remains active, and police have not said whether they expect any additional suspects or arrests. IMPD is also withholding the suspect's name until formal charges are filed and booking information is finalized.
