What started as a late-night argument over a woman at a Trevor Lane home in Springfield ended with a man in handcuffs and another bleeding from a head wound, according to Bulloch County authorities.
Deputies say 42-year-old Rodney Lamond Dixon turned himself in after allegedly striking a 35-year-old man with the barrel of a handgun during the Saturday night dispute. The victim was treated on scene by Bulloch County EMS for what officials described as non-life-threatening injuries, and Dixon reportedly fled the residence before later surrendering to law enforcement.
Bulloch County Sheriff Lynn Anderson told Statesboro Herald that deputies were dispatched to the Trevor Lane address around 11:45 p.m. Once there, they interviewed witnesses and located the injured man. Anderson identified the suspect as Dixon of Harvest Drive in Springfield and said he faces charges of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and affray. Jail records indicate he was booked into the Bulloch County Jail and later posted a $5,000 bond.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact sheriff’s investigator Jason Long at (912) 764-1747 or submit an anonymous tip to [email protected], according to the report.
Charges and Legal Implications
Under Georgia law, prosecutors have more than one tool at their disposal in a case like this. Possessing a firearm during the commission of certain felonies is treated as its own crime, separate from the underlying offense. That charge carries a mandatory five-year sentence that must run consecutively to any other sentence, under O.C.G.A. § 16-11-106.
Affray, defined as "the fighting by two or more persons in some public place to the disturbance of the public tranquility," is typically handled as a misdemeanor under O.C.G.A. § 16-11-32. Aggravated assault, on the other hand, can bring significantly steeper penalties, especially if prosecutors seek enhanced counts based on the circumstances.
Investigation and What Comes Next
Sheriff’s investigators say the confrontation on Trevor Lane grew out of a dispute over a female friend, and witnesses at the scene were interviewed as part of the ongoing probe. Dixon remains free after posting bond while the Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office continues to work the case.
The sheriff’s office has again urged anyone with additional information to contact Investigator Jason Long at (912) 764-1747 or email [email protected]. The initial account of the incident, along with booking details, was provided to the press by the sheriff’s office and reported by Statesboro Herald.
