Early Tuesday morning in Hollywood, a routine start to the day turned grim when a man's body was found floating in the Intracoastal Waterway, triggering a swift marine response and a homicide investigation, authorities said. The victim's name and cause of death have not yet been released.
According to Local 10, a passerby on the Sheridan Street bridge spotted the body just before 7:20 a.m. and called police. Officers then converged on the scene along the Intracoastal Waterway.
Recovery at the scene
Hollywood Fire Rescue crews headed to the area, and a Broward Sheriff's Office marine unit recovered the person from the water, CBS Miami reported. Officials at the scene confirmed the person was dead, and investigators secured the area so detectives could take over.
Investigation underway
Hollywood Police said homicide detectives are leading the case and so far have described the victim only as a white man while investigators work to confirm his identity, the Miami Herald noted. Authorities are keeping other specifics close to the vest as the probe continues.
Officer Christian Lata told Local 10, "At this time, our Homicide Unit is investigating this, as they do all death investigations." He added that the medical examiner will work with homicide detectives to determine the cause of death before any next steps are taken.

This case comes on the heels of an early June incident when a woman's body washed ashore on Hollywood Beach, a discovery detailed in mystery woman's body washes onto Hollywood Beach.
