A late-night party at a short-term rental on Indianapolis’s near-north side turned chaotic Saturday when gunfire broke out, leaving a 15-year-old girl in the hospital with what police called non-life-threatening injuries.
Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were already at the home on North Delaware Street, near North Meridian and East 16th streets, responding to the gathering just before midnight when shots were fired, according to WIBC 93.1 FM. The teen was taken to a hospital, and the scene remained an active investigation into the early hours of Sunday.
Short-Term Rental Parties Under Fire
The incident is the latest in a run of violent encounters linked to short-term rentals on the north side this spring, turning what are supposed to be quick getaways into neighborhood flashpoints. Neighbors have been pressing city officials for more oversight.
As WRTV reported, a deadly post-prom shooting in May at another short-term rental pushed residents and city leaders into a public meeting focused on safety and the need for tighter rules.

Indianapolis has rolled out a permit system and registration requirements for short-term rentals, but city officials are limited by state law in how far they can go. According to CityRuleLookup, the city’s program sets permit rules and occupancy limits, while key policy decisions are controlled at the state level.
Police Seeking Witnesses
IMPD said the shooting is still under investigation and urged anyone who saw what happened or captured video to contact detectives at 317-327-3475 or Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS, according to WIBC 93.1 FM. Investigators had not released any suspect descriptions or announced any arrests in the initial report.
