Downtown Noblesville has a new place where the music is not background noise—it is the main event. The Pretender Hi-Fi Lounge & Bar has opened with a Japanese listening-lounge concept, chef-driven small plates and more than $60,000 worth of vintage and modern audio gear.
The new lounge’s setup includes an Akai reel-to-reel player, Technics turntables, McIntosh amplifiers, Sansui speakers and Tannoy speakers, according to WISH-TV. Local DJs are scheduled to spin vinyl on weekends, and guests can bring records from home—although the room’s whole point is to make everyone listen a little more closely.
The concept borrows from Japanese kissa listening lounges, with music treated as the main attraction rather than background filler. Blake Fogelsong, owner and director of operations for Clancy’s Hospitality, previously told Current that the room was designed for quiet conversation and serious listening.
Small Plates And Cocktails Get The Hi-Fi Treatment
Executive Chef Ricky Martinez’s menu leans into shareable comfort food, with items including brie brûlée with pistachio dust, jalapeño-bacon-jam deviled eggs and roasted pork tenderloin with apples and cabbage, WISH-TV’s opening report notes. The bar program adds elevated cocktails, wine, beer and sake, so dinner is less an interruption between songs than part of the same carefully arranged experience.
The investment is more than a flashy centerpiece. The 2,000-square-foot lounge is designed for roughly 50 guests, and Indianapolis Business Journal reported that Chicago-based Uncanned Music helped assemble the system and supplies long analog tapes for hospitality spaces.
The opening is also the latest chapter for Clancy’s Hospitality, the Noblesville-based restaurant group behind concepts including Grindstone and The Fountain Room. The company previously described The Pretender to Current as a way to add a more immersive, low-lit destination to downtown’s growing restaurant scene.
The Pretender currently lists hours from 4 to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 4 to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday, according to its location page. Its event calendar lists live DJ sets on Friday and Saturday nights from 7 to 11 p.m., giving Noblesville audiophiles a standing weekend appointment with the needle.
