A 51-year-old Plymouth man was killed overnight when his vehicle veered off U.S. 6 and slammed into a tree on a rural stretch of the highway in Marshall County, authorities said. Emergency crews found the driver dead at the scene Wednesday morning, and the crash briefly shut down part of the two-lane corridor west of town while first responders worked the scene. Investigators say the collision happened sometime overnight and are still sorting out what sent the vehicle off the road.
Police identified the victim as 51-year-old Robert Neiswender Jr. of Plymouth. Officers were dispatched to the 13000 block of U.S. 6 just before 8:45 a.m. yesterday after a crash was reported. Investigators say Neiswender was driving west when his vehicle left the roadway and hit a tree. He was the only person in the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene, and an autopsy will be scheduled, according to WNDU.

This part of U.S. 6 has seen deadly wrecks before, including a two-vehicle crash in 2023 that killed a Plymouth man after his vehicle hit a guardrail and then a semi, as reported by local station MAX 98.3. When fatalities happen along the corridor, local authorities typically bring in the Marshall County Coroner’s Office, sheriff’s deputies and nearby fire and EMS crews.
An autopsy is expected to pinpoint the cause and timing of death, and the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department is leading the investigation, police said.
