A late-night break-in at a Rogers Park auto repair shop turned into a multi-car crash Tuesday, after thieves stole an SUV and slammed it into several vehicles along the 6800 block of North Clark Street. One person was detained at the scene while others took off running, and several people were taken to nearby hospitals.
According to Chicago police, the break-in happened around 11:22 p.m. when four male suspects forced their way into the garage, damaged a door, and took off in a red SUV. While trying to flee, the red SUV hit a gray SUV, a black SUV and two parked vehicles before coming to a stop. Officers arrested one suspect as the others ran from the scene, ABC7 Chicago reported.
Who Was Hurt and Where They Went
A woman driving the black SUV was taken to Illinois Masonic Hospital in good condition, police said. Two women and a man who were passengers were taken to St. Francis Hospital, also in good condition. The driver of the black SUV declined medical treatment at the scene, according to authorities.
What Police Are Saying
Police have not released the name of the suspect who was arrested or said whether any charges have been filed, as detectives continue to work the case. Officers are still looking for the remaining suspects and are seeking more details on how the thieves got into the shop in the first place.
