
Three people were shot Monday evening on the 3900 block of West Division Street in the Humboldt Park neighborhood after an argument on the sidewalk boiled over into a fight. Police say an unidentified person pulled out a gun, opened fire and then ran off, leaving two men and a woman wounded.
Police: Sidewalk Fight Ends in Gunfire
The shooting happened around 6:13 p.m., according to CBS Chicago. Chicago police told the station the victims were two men, ages 25 and 52, and a 45-year-old woman. The 52-year-old man was shot in the groin and right knee, and the 25-year-old man was shot in the left thigh and in the rear. Both were taken to Stroger Hospital, where they were listed in fair condition. The 45-year-old woman was shot in the left leg and was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital in good condition.
Violence Keeps Clustering in the Neighborhood
The incident is the latest of several recent street fights and shootings in Humboldt Park, including a daylight street brawl that turned deadly. NBC Chicago also reported on a June 26 confrontation in which a woman was fatally shot during a fight, underscoring the neighborhood’s recent cluster of violence. Residents and community leaders have pushed for stepped-up intervention and tighter coordination between police and local outreach programs as violent episodes continue to flare on the West Side.
Area 4 Detectives Investigating
Area 4 detectives are investigating the shooting, and police said no arrests had been reported as of Monday night. Authorities have released few additional details and asked anyone with information to contact investigators. As reported by CBS Chicago, no further information was immediately available.
