A 34-year-old man was shot and killed Wednesday night in Woodlawn after several people climbed out of two SUVs and opened fire along South Cottage Grove Avenue, according to Chicago police.
The barrage erupted around 7:20 p.m. in the 6700 block of South Cottage Grove, officials said. The victim was rushed to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he later died. Detectives said no one was in custody.
Police: Shooters Pulled Up In Two SUVs
According to the Chicago Sun‑Times, witnesses and officers reported that people got out of a gray SUV and a white SUV and started firing toward the man on South Cottage Grove. The Sun‑Times report, citing Chicago police, notes that the victim was 34 years old and died at the hospital.
Detectives Seeking Witnesses, Cellphone Video
The Chicago Police Department's Bureau of Detectives, Area One, is handling the investigation and is asking anyone with information or cellphone video to call (312) 747‑8380, according to a department alert. Investigators said the case remains active and that no suspects were in custody as of Wednesday night.
Woodlawn Neighbors Confront Yet Another Shooting
The killing adds to a string of shootings that have rattled the South Side this year.
