The Misfit Lou, a downtown Louisville sandwich restaurant, and its basement speakeasy Hereafter will both close by the end of August 2026, according to a social media announcement made on Tuesday. The pair have occupied the building at 119 S. 7th St. since opening in early 2024, giving the concept just over two years in business before shutting its doors.
The closures were reported by The Courier-Journal, whose reporting on the announcement forms the basis of most details available so far. The Misfit Lou occupies the former longtime home of Another Place Sandwich Shop, and Hereafter operates as the speakeasy-esque bar tucked below it. The closing timeline was announced on social media, though neither has publicly detailed the reasons behind the decision.
A Building With A Deep Nightlife History
The address has cycled through concepts before. Hospitality group Against the Grain briefly ran the ATG Sandwich Emporium on the ground floor and The Flamingo Lounge speakeasy in the basement starting in October 2021, according to 6AM City. Before that, the basement space now home to Hereafter housed Jimmy Can't Dance, a subterranean live jazz club that was a fixture of downtown Louisville's music scene, per Louisville Magazine's reporting on the venue.

Recent Menu Changes And Community Ties
The Misfit Lou had shifted its culinary direction as recently as December, when it debuted a revamped menu featuring tacos and burgers from Chef KP, according to a post on the restaurant's official Facebook page. The business had also woven itself into downtown's tourism scene, hosting the starting reception and welcome drinks for Louisville Historic Tours' “Misfits and Mayhem” evening walking tour, per listings on GoToLouisville.com.
Part Of A Broader Wave Of Closures
The Misfit Lou and Hereafter aren't alone. Louisville's Good Belly Sandwich Shop separately announced its own end-of-August closure at its location near Douglass Loop. Bluegrass Brewing Company is another Louisville food-and-beverage business.
Downtown Louisville has also been the focus of separate civic and development discussions.
Louisville Metro Alcoholic Beverage Control has also ramped up enforcement in the city's nightlife scene, issuing 12 emergency liquor license suspensions since 2024 to temporarily halt alcohol sales at venues facing public safety or late-night violence concerns, as Hoodline previously reported in its coverage of the citywide liquor license crackdown. It remains unclear whether the businesses' closure decision had any connection to factors beyond the social media announcement confirming the end-of-August timeline.
