East Nashville is about to get its first freestanding emergency room, with TriStar set to open a $21.4 million, 24/7 facility next week. The new ER is designed to handle serious emergencies — from chest pain and stroke symptoms to traumatic injuries — without forcing residents to cross town before care starts. And unlike an urgent care, this one is being pitched as a full emergency department.
TriStar East Nashville ER will open to the public next Tuesday, according to WSMV. The facility will have 11 treatment rooms, including a trauma bay and resuscitation area, along with digital CT, ultrasound, and an on-site point-of-care laboratory. Board-certified emergency physicians and specially trained staff will be available around the clock.
TriStar Health describes the site as a stand-alone ER rather than a hospital campus, but says it will function as an integrated extension of TriStar Skyline Medical Center. The facility is expected to treat adults and children and connect patients to one of 11 TriStar hospitals in Middle Tennessee when admission or higher-level care is needed. That is the basic pitch: bring hospital-level diagnostics and stabilization closer without building a full hospital in East Nashville.
Speed is the headline promise. TriStar is aiming to see patients within five to 10 minutes of arrival, and Fred Smith, deputy director of EMS operations for the Nashville Fire Department, told WSMV that the facility’s proximity should help paramedics move patients quickly into emergency care. For a stroke, heart attack or major trauma, shaving minutes off the handoff is not exactly a minor upgrade.
East Nashville Joins Middle Tennessee ER Expansion
The opening also puts East Nashville inside a larger Middle Tennessee push to add freestanding emergency departments. Hoodline reported this month that TriStar broke ground on a similar 24/7 facility in Fairview, while Ascension Saint Thomas has been advancing a separate freestanding ER plan in Mt. Juliet, as detailed in Hoodline’s coverage. Health systems are increasingly selling these smaller sites on shorter drives and faster access as suburbs and city neighborhoods grow.
TriStar says the East Nashville location will accept most major insurance plans. In a true emergency, the company advises calling 911 or going to the nearest ER, but once the new facility opens, residents will have another round-the-clock option much closer to home, according to TriStar Health.
