Indianapolis is starting Saturday, August 1, with light rain, fog and temperatures around 72 degrees, and the unsettled weather is not planning to leave quietly. Showers and thunderstorms are expected to roll through much of the day, setting up a damp weekend across the city.
Saturday Rain Comes In Waves
Showers and thunderstorms are likely from the morning into the afternoon, with the steadiest chances between about 7 and 10 a.m. and another round building later in the day. The high should reach only about 75 degrees before temperatures ease back into the low 70s, while southeast winds near 10 mph could gust up to 21 mph.
The National Weather Service Indianapolis is forecasting roughly three-quarters of an inch to 1 inch of rain Saturday, with another half-inch to three-quarters of an inch possible overnight. Heavy rain could create ponding on roads, and forecasters say flash flooding cannot be ruled out Saturday afternoon and evening.
No watches, warnings or advisories are listed at this time, but repeated downpours may still make for slick roads and poor visibility. Anyone heading out should allow extra travel time and avoid driving through water covering a roadway.
Sunday Stays Gray And Wet
Sunday, August 2, brings little relief, with showers and thunderstorms likely, cloudy skies and a high near 77 degrees. Rain chances are around 70%, with another quarter-inch to half-inch possible, and storms remain likely Sunday night before tapering before 2 a.m. Monday.
That leaves outdoor plans facing a classic Indianapolis backup-plan weekend: brief breaks may appear, but the forecast favors on-and-off rain rather than a clean stretch of dry weather. Overnight lows will stay near 67 degrees both Saturday and Sunday nights.
A Brighter Midweek Reprieve
Monday, August 3, should be partly sunny with a high near 78 and only a slight chance of an afternoon shower or thunderstorm. Tuesday warms to about 82 degrees with mostly sunny skies early and a 30% chance of storms later in the day.
Wednesday looks like the week’s clearest break, with mostly sunny skies and a high near 84 degrees. Temperatures rise into the mid-80s again Thursday and Friday, though periodic shower and thunderstorm chances return by the end of the week.
