An Indianapolis man is behind bars after investigators say a mother uncovered disturbing messages between him and her teenage daughter, triggering a police investigation into alleged sexual misconduct. Authorities accuse the man of getting the girl high in his car before taking the alleged abuse further.
Deveon Jackson, 26, was arrested Friday on a warrant and faces two counts of sexual misconduct with a minor, along with one misdemeanor count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, according to Fox 59.
Court documents say the girl's mother learned about the alleged misconduct after reviewing her daughter's phone and finding sexual messages involving Jackson. The girl told police Jackson asked her to smoke marijuana with him in his car, then allegedly continued performing sex acts after she became high and despite acknowledging that what he was doing was wrong.
Jackson Faces Felony Counts In Indianapolis Case
Sexual misconduct with a minor is charged as a Level 4 felony in this case. Under Indiana's sentencing rules, a Level 4 felony carries two to 12 years in prison, with a six-year advisory sentence and a possible fine of up to $10,000, according to the Indiana Department of Correction.
The charging documents indicate Indianapolis Metropolitan Police began investigating the allegations in early May. Jackson's arrest warrant had reportedly been issued more than a month before officers took him into custody Friday, and he remains jailed as the case moves through court, Fox 59 reported.
The allegations remain unproven, and Jackson is presumed innocent unless prosecutors secure a conviction. The case will now turn on the evidence gathered by investigators, the formal charging process and future court hearings.
