The Christ Hospital Medical Center in Liberty Township has finished an 8,800-square-foot addition to its family birthing center, a $13 million project that adds private labor, delivery, and postpartum rooms along with two new tubs designed for water-assisted natural childbirth. The expansion is meant to keep pace with a fast-growing corner of Butler County where new subdivisions keep sprouting along Interstate 75.
According to WKRC, the addition expands the facility's family birthing center and was designed to give patients single-room stays rather than shuttling between separate labor and recovery spaces. The Christ Hospital Health Network partnered with Champlin Architecture, CMTA Engineering, Schaefer Inc., and Danis Construction Company to design and build the project, according to a press release from The Christ Hospital. The new labor tubs support hydrotherapy for parents who want a natural birth option, the hospital says.
Part of a Bigger Building Pattern
This is not the campus's first major upgrade in recent years. In September 2024, the Liberty Township site completed a separate $20 million, 17,800-square-foot expansion that added five new labor and delivery rooms and doubled the hospital's MRI and CT imaging capacity, installing a cardiac-capable 1.5 Siemens Sola MRI magnet and a Philips ICT CT scanner, per the same WKRC report. That earlier project came as the hospital network reported increased demand for cardiac, orthopedic, cancer, and women's diagnostic and health screenings.
Hospital officials said the newly finished birthing center addition has increased labor and delivery capacity by 50 percent and provides greater access for women seeking obstetrical care across greater Cincinnati, the station reported. The Christ Hospital announced the broader Butler County expansion project in October 2025, and the completed work represents an eight-figure investment at the ancillary campus, according to the outlet.
A Campus Built for Growth
The Liberty Township hospital first opened in January 2018 as a 125,000-square-foot facility off Cox Road near Interstate 75, providing emergency medicine, inpatient beds, surgical suites, and an initial birthing center, according to a report filed with the Ohio Auditor of State. The site was built to capture healthcare demand along a corridor that has only accelerated since. Liberty Township's population grew 18 percent from 37,259 residents in 2010 to 43,999 in 2020, and is now estimated at 46,154, driven largely by residential development along the Cincinnati-Dayton corridor, per Liberty Township and U.S. Census Bureau data.
Butler County as a whole has outpaced state growth trends too. The county's population climbed 6 percent between 2010 and 2020 to 390,357, compared to Ohio's statewide growth rate of just 2.3 percent, and surpassed 400,000 residents in 2025, according to U.S. Census Bureau figures compiled by Butler County Development. That growth has made the area a magnet for healthcare investment well beyond The Christ Hospital's campus.
Competing for Suburban Families
The Liberty Township healthcare corridor has become a battleground among major regional systems. Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center launched a $365 million Liberty Campus expansion that tripled its overnight bed count and made it the township's largest employer. The competition underscores why suburban maternity and diagnostic investments carry strategic weight for hospital networks chasing commercially insured patients in Cincinnati's affluent northern suburbs.
The Christ Hospital Health Network has leaned on its clinical reputation to compete. In August 2026, U.S. News & World Report ranked the network as the top hospital in Southwest Ohio and third overall statewide for 2026-2027, awarding it High Performing status across 22 medical procedures and conditions. Premier Inc. and Modern Healthcare also named the network the third-best teaching hospital in the country in April 2026, a jump from a 15th-place national ranking the year before.
Founded 137 years ago, The Christ Hospital Health Network operates its main acute-care hospital in Cincinnati's Mt. Auburn neighborhood, the Liberty Township campus, and eight outpatient centers, supported by more than 1,300 physicians and 7,200 employees. The network's main campus recently made headlines of its own, performing Ohio's first new tricuspid valve implant earlier this month, adding to a string of clinical milestones across the system this year.
