Clear skies are giving Nashville an early start to a dangerous weekend, with temperatures around 77°F and humidity already above 80% Saturday morning. By afternoon, the mercury is expected to reach about 101°F, while the heat index could make it feel closer to 110°.
The National Weather Service has an Extreme Heat Warning in effect through 7 p.m. Sunday for much of Middle Tennessee. Saturday will be sunny with only a tiny chance of rain, and southwest winds should stay light for most of the day.
Sunday Could Be Even Hotter
Sunday is shaping up to be the peak of the heat, with a high near 103°F and heat-index values as high as 114°. Overnight lows will remain in the upper 70s, offering limited relief for homes without reliable air conditioning. Outdoor work, exercise and lengthy errands will be safest early in the morning or after sunset.
Some Relief Arrives Later Next Week
Monday will still be hot, with a high near 99°F and a slight chance of showers or thunderstorms after 1 p.m. Temperatures ease to about 96° Tuesday before climbing back near 100° Wednesday, when isolated afternoon storms become possible. A better cooling trend arrives Thursday and Friday, with highs in the mid-90s to around 91° and additional storm chances.
Heat Resources And Safety Reminders
Nashville officials recommend drinking plenty of fluids, staying in air conditioning when possible and checking on older neighbors, young children and anyone with medical conditions. The city's extreme-heat resource page lists water distribution, heat patrols and cooling support, including weekday services at Room in the Inn's Hope U Day Center at 705 Drexel Street. Never leave children or pets in a parked vehicle, even for a quick stop.
