Cloudy skies and sticky air are greeting Nashville early Saturday, with temperatures around 75 degrees and thunderstorms set to complicate the afternoon. The high may reach 91, but the heat index could climb to 103 before storms and a front knock temperatures down later in the day.
Storm Chances Build Saturday Afternoon
A few showers and storms are possible this morning, with the best chance arriving from about 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The National Weather Service in Nashville says the heavier activity is more likely east of I-65 from late afternoon into evening, though anyone in Nashville should be prepared for a sudden downpour or lightning.
Southwest winds will run 10 to 15 mph and could gust to 25 mph. Rainfall is generally expected to stay under a quarter-inch in Nashville, and the weather service says widespread flooding is not expected, although isolated problems remain possible east of I-65. No watches, warnings or advisories are posted.
Cooler, Wetter Pattern Lingers Into Monday
Saturday night should turn partly cloudy with a low near 70. Sunday looks cooler, with a high around 84 and another round of showers and thunderstorms, followed by a low near 69 and a 50% rain chance Sunday night.
Monday stays unsettled, with a high near 85 and scattered showers or storms possible. The forecast then trends hotter and quieter: mostly sunny Wednesday with a high near 92, sunny Thursday near 94, and Friday near 95 with only a slight storm chance.
For Saturday plans, keep water nearby and have a way to get indoors when thunder arrives. Gusty winds, lightning and brief heavy rain could make outdoor events and driving messy during the afternoon and early evening, even if much of the day stays dry.
