A 43-year-old Greenwood man is facing a felony charge after a child told investigators she had been sexually touched repeatedly over several years, including about four times a week since 2019, according to newly filed court documents. The allegations surfaced in late July and led to the man's arrest days before the case was formally filed. The child reportedly said the last alleged incident happened about two weeks before the case became public.
Documents filed Monday in Johnson County identify the defendant as Jeremiah Kolubah of Greenwood. Fox 59 reported that Kolubah was charged with one count of sexual misconduct with a minor after the child came forward in late July.
The child reportedly told investigators that Kolubah touched multiple parts of her body and said the conduct happened on multiple occasions. The documents also allege that she told other people about the abuse, but that one person told her not to disclose what happened while others did not take action after she spoke up.
Kolubah was located on July 27 and taken to the Greenwood Police Department, according to the filing. After investigators read him his Miranda rights, he requested to speak with an attorney before answering additional questions. In one account described in the documents, he reportedly claimed the child jumped on him, grabbed him and tempted him to do something on one occasion.
What Indiana's Sexual Misconduct Law Covers
Under Indiana law, an adult who knowingly or intentionally fondles or touches a child younger than 16 with the intent to arouse or satisfy sexual desires can be charged with sexual misconduct with a minor. The offense is generally a Level 6 felony, but the statute elevates it to a Level 5 felony when the accused person is at least 21, according to the Indiana Code.
The publicly available filing identifies one charge against Kolubah, and the allegations have not been tested at trial. He is presumed innocent unless prosecutors prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt.
