Indianapolis is waking up Wednesday to cloudy skies, muggy air and another day of storms, with a Flood Watch in effect across central Indiana through tonight. The high is expected to reach about 84 degrees, but repeated downpours could make this feel more like a weather delay than a typical summer afternoon.
Storms Could Roll Through Most Of Wednesday
Patchy fog and thunderstorms are possible early Wednesday, followed by additional rounds of showers and storms through the afternoon and evening. The National Weather Service says some storms could bring damaging wind gusts, while heavy rain remains a serious concern, especially in places that have already received a soaking.
Forecast rainfall totals for Wednesday range from a half-inch to three-quarters of an inch, though heavier pockets are possible. Storm coverage may be scattered at times, but the overall chance of precipitation is about 70%.
Flood Watch Keeps Low-Lying Areas At Risk
The National Weather Service says flash flooding remains possible across much of central Indiana through Wednesday evening, with the watch continuing until midnight. Rivers, creeks, streams and other low-lying or flood-prone locations could see additional flooding as storms move through.
Indianapolis could see another quarter-inch to half-inch of rain Wednesday night, when showers and thunderstorms remain possible through the overnight hours. Anyone traveling should avoid flooded roadways and never drive through water covering the pavement.
Storm Chances Linger Into Friday
Thursday brings a high near 83 with scattered showers and thunderstorms throughout the day, followed by a wetter Thursday night with an 80% chance of precipitation. Rainfall Thursday night could total three-quarters of an inch to 1 inch in spots.
Showers and thunderstorms remain likely Friday before 2 p.m., with a high near 85 and another quarter-inch to half-inch of rain possible. The weather service discussion says the severe-weather threat should generally ease after Wednesday, even as storm chances continue.
Weekend Brings A Break From The Wet Pattern
Saturday looks mostly sunny with a high near 88 and only a slight chance of an afternoon storm. Sunday could be the warmest day of the stretch, reaching about 90 degrees with a small storm chance after 2 p.m.
Conditions turn more comfortable early next week, with a mostly sunny Monday near 83 and a sunny Tuesday near 81. Overnight lows fall to the mid-60s Monday and Tuesday nights, offering Indianapolis a much quieter finish after several unsettled days.
