Yesterday afternoon power outage knocked electricity out across parts of Salt Lake City and South Salt Lake, leaving thousands of homes and businesses in the dark. The heaviest impact was reported around Sugar House, where crews worked through the evening to bring service back.
More than 3,600 Rocky Mountain Power customers were affected in the Salt Lake Valley, according to FOX 13 News Utah. The initial report did not identify a cause for the outage.
Most Outages Clustered In Sugar House And South Salt Lake
Rocky Mountain Power’s outage system shows service interruptions by county and ZIP code, with information generally refreshed every 15 minutes. The utility says outage locations are generalized to protect customer privacy, according to its official outage page.
Restoration estimates varied by location. FOX 13 reported that most customers were expected to have power restored by 9 p.m., while about 50 customers had a later 11:30 restoration estimate.
Another Large Salt Lake Area Outage Hit In May
The latest disruption follows another sizable Salt Lake City outage in May, when roughly 5,249 Rocky Mountain Power customers lost service during a mid-morning interruption, according to a similar May outage report. That incident also left crews working against a moving restoration timeline as they investigated the problem.
Customers who remain without power can report an outage by texting “OUT” to 759677 or calling 1-877-508-5088. Rocky Mountain Power also warns residents never to touch or approach downed power lines and to call 911 when a line is creating an immediate danger.
