Baron Corbin’s WWE return is set to intersect with a familiar Indianapolis connection when Friday Night SmackDown comes to Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Sept. 25. WISH-TV reports that Corbin is expected to appear, but the venue’s advertised listing does not independently confirm him as part of the show.
The event is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m., with doors opening at 6 p.m. The venue listing advertises Oba Femi against Rusev; Corbin is not included in that promoted matchup. That distinction matters because an expected appearance is not the same as an officially announced match or segment.
A return tied to Indianapolis
According to WISH-TV, Corbin recently signed a multiyear WWE contract after spending roughly a year and a half away from the company to be home with his family. He told the station that he is returning with another United States Championship run in mind, saying, “Now I’m on a mission to get my title back.”
The Indianapolis link predates Corbin’s wrestling career. The Indianapolis Colts report that Tom Pestock, later known as Baron Corbin, signed with the team as an undrafted college free agent in 2009 but was released during that year’s final cuts. His connection to the city is therefore an NFL pursuit, not a record of an established Colts playing career.
Indianapolis as a WWE stop
Corbin’s appearance would place a weekly WWE television event within a broader Indianapolis partnership. WWE and Indiana Sports Corp say their multiyear agreement began with the Feb. 1, 2025, Royal Rumble at Lucas Oil Stadium and includes future SummerSlam and WrestleMania events. The agreement also provides for arena-based Raw, SmackDown, NXT and live events around Indiana.
That makes the Gainbridge show a different kind of event from the stadium-scale premium events planned under the partnership. Indianapolis has also hosted notable WWE moments before: 93.5 & 107.5 The Fan identifies Survivor Series 2012 at what was then Bankers Life Fieldhouse as the event where The Shield debuted.
What remains unconfirmed
The current public information supports Corbin’s expected Indianapolis return, his local football connection and his stated interest in the United States Championship. It does not establish that he will wrestle, whom he would face or whether he will appear in a match at all. Those details remain separate from the official venue listing and could change before the Sept. 25 broadcast.
