Dumont Creamery and Cafe scooped into Greater Houston for the first time on September 12, opening a new storefront in Sugar Land's Riverstone district that pairs Indian-inspired desserts with lattes, slushies and milk teas. The opening brings the Hyderabad-founded ice cream chain into Sugar Land's Riverstone district.

The new cafe sits at 4734 LJ Parkway, Ste. 300, inside a 1,300-square-foot retail space. WhatNow Houston's 2025 report listed the planned shop at 4737 LJ Parkway, Ste. 300, in commercial permit filings. As Community Impact reports, the menu ranges from a date cardamom latte and pistachio white mocha to a mangonada, strawberry slushie, milk teas with tapioca, ice cream, and freshly baked pastries sourced from local bakeries.

From Hyderabad Dairy Empire to North Texas Debut

Dumont Creamery traces back to 1999, when brothers Vivek and Bhashkaar Inampudi founded it in Hyderabad, India, building it into a major dairy manufacturing enterprise before pushing into international markets, according to Hoodline's earlier reporting on the chain's two Dallas-area shops. The brand's U.S. debut came in late 2023 in Frisco near the Little Elm border; Coppell was its second Dallas-area shop, per the same Hoodline account. Community Impact notes the Sugar Land shop is the company's first Greater Houston store, and that Dumont has set a goal of opening more than 90 stores nationwide by 2026, according to its website.

Beyond standard coffee and slushie fare, Dumont's international menu leans into globally inspired ice cream flavors, including Indian kheer — a coconut ice cream loaded with dried fruits and nuts — alongside New Zealand hokey pokey and Italian sorbets, per that same Hoodline coverage. The chain, which also crashed a party in Naperville, Illinois for its first Illinois scoop shop earlier this year, is now looking further into the Houston suburbs. Community Impact reports Aadiyan Group plans another Dumont location in Cypress for spring 2027.

Sugar Land's Diverse, Affluent Trade Area

The Riverstone master-planned community, developed by Johnson Development, spans 3,800 acres across Sugar Land and Missouri City and includes roughly 6,400 households and 18,000 residents, according to data cited in Hoodline's report on Acai Brasil's Riverstone opening. That density surrounds the new LJ Parkway storefront with a substantial built-in customer base.

Fort Bend County had the highest percentage of Asian residents among Texas counties in the 2020 Census, at 22.2%. Census estimates compiled by Data USA show Sugar Land's median household income reached $136,217 in 2024, with foreign-born residents making up 35.6% of the city's population — a combination that helps explain why specialty international food brands keep targeting the suburb.

A Crowded Field of New Riverstone Concepts

Dumont isn't the only newcomer testing the Riverstone retail corridor along University Boulevard and LJ Parkway. The area has seen plans for multiple specialty food concepts in 2026, including Houston-based halal grocer Prime Bazaar, covered in Hoodline's report on the halal grocer's Riverstone debut, and Brazilian smoothie shop Acai Brasil, which was planned for Riverstone.

For Sugar Land shoppers, a cardamom latte or a scoop of kheer is now just a stop along LJ Parkway, with Dumont's next Houston-area outpost already mapped for Cypress.
