Winds may gust 20 to 30 mph along the coast and in favored gaps and passes late in the afternoon, so waterfront walkers and cyclists could still want an extra layer even as the sun comes out.
Tuesday is also the autumnal equinox, with astronomical fall beginning at 5:05 p.m. Pacific time. The calendar may be turning toward sweater season, but the forecast has other ideas for the next couple of days.
Warmest Day Arrives Wednesday
Wednesday looks like the warmest day of the week in the city, with patchy morning fog followed by mostly sunny skies and a high near 78 degrees. Thursday stays mild and bright, topping out around 74 degrees.
That is a noticeable turn from Monday’s cooler setup, when an earlier Hoodline forecast pointed to warming beginning Tuesday and continuing through Thursday.
Cooler Weather Returns Friday
Temperatures cool Friday, with weekend readings in the middle 60s to middle 70s near the bays.
Monday brings a small rebound to around 70 degrees under sunny skies. Overnight lows will generally stay in the upper 50s to around 60, making early mornings noticeably cooler than the afternoons.
Small Craft Advisories Continue Offshore
Boaters should pay attention to stronger winds and rougher seas along parts of the coast. Small Craft Advisories are in effect for several coastal and offshore zones, with breezier conditions expected Tuesday afternoon and elevated seas continuing in the days ahead.
