A former Avon choir and theater teacher has been sentenced to six years in the Indiana Department of Correction and five years of probation after admitting he filmed sexually explicit videos of himself inside a school classroom and sent them to teenage girls on Snapchat. Kayvon H. Emtiaz, 30, pleaded guilty to vicarious sexual gratification, child solicitation and possession of child pornography before this week's sentencing.
According to Fox 59, Emtiaz was sentenced this week to six years in the Indiana Department of Correction and five years of probation after pleading guilty to the three felony counts. The case traces back to early September 2024, when police began investigating Emtiaz after receiving a cyber tip that a local Snapchat user was downloading child pornography, the station reports. Snapchat had flagged the account as belonging to someone who described himself as a person of trust, such as a teacher, coach or police officer.
That tip led investigators to a chilling discovery: a potential Avon school district teacher had reportedly been masturbating inside the school itself. Police filed search warrants for two Snapchat accounts, kavman105 and fiftyshadedaddy, and found videos of a man masturbating behind a desk in what the report describes as appearing to be a music classroom, per Fox 59's account of the case documents.
Videos Sent to Teen Girls, Then Traced Back
Investigators determined the videos were not just saved but actively sent to other Snapchat accounts, and that the user behind them solicited several 13-year-old girls, according to the same Fox 59 reporting. The account holder allegedly claimed to be a 28-year-old naughty teacher who fantasized about his students and said he was from Indiana. He reportedly told girls he fantasized about keeping students after class, locking the door, and sexually abusing them.
The Indianapolis Star reported that investigators found the kavman105 account had saved 66 photos and videos of a young girl, some of which were sexually explicit. That outlet also reported that the fiftyshadedaddy account was associated with the same IP address as kavman105, and that a subsequent search of Emtiaz's home found the property's IP address matched the one tied to both accounts.
Police questioned Emtiaz on Nov. 21, 2024, and he admitted to using both Snapchat accounts, Fox 59 reported. He said he had conversations with underage girls on Snapchat but told investigators he could not specifically remember all of the exchanges. He also acknowledged saving videos of underage girls so he could masturbate to them while fantasizing about his students, per the outlet's account of the interview.
Hidden Files Found on His Phone
When detectives searched Emtiaz's phone, they found child pornography files tucked into a hidden section of his photos application, Fox 59 reported. Among those files were the exact images sent to him by one of the 13-year-old girls, according to the station's reporting on the investigation.
The charging details reported in the days after Emtiaz's November 2024 arrest varied between outlets. WTHR reported he faced one count of vicarious sexual gratification, two counts of child solicitation and 10 counts of possession of child pornography, while the Indianapolis Star reported 11 counts of possessing child pornography, two counts of child solicitation and one count of vicarious sexual gratification. A Trail of Avon School Assignments
Emtiaz worked at several Avon elementary and middle schools during his time as a full-time teacher, according to Fox 59's reporting on court documents. He was employed as a teacher from November 2019 to December 2022, spending time at White Oak Elementary from November 2019 to May 2021, Avon Intermediate School West from July 2021 to March 2022, and Avon Middle School North from March to December 2022, per those records. After his full-time employment ended, he continued as an extracurricular choir and theater coach, the Indianapolis Star noted.
Avon Community School Corporation confirmed Emtiaz was a former employee. WTHR reported that the district said it immediately terminated his extracurricular activity involvement and revoked his access to all Avon school facilities upon learning of the allegations. The district also told WTHR it was unaware of any allegations connecting the charges to Avon students.
Part of a Broader Pattern in Indiana
Emtiaz's case joins a string of Indiana prosecutions involving educators and coaches accused of exploiting positions of trust with minors. In January 2019, former Indiana high school swim coach John Goelz was sentenced to nearly 17 years in federal prison after exploiting his position of trust and authority with a minor student athlete for his own sexual gratification, per Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
