Indianapolis woke Wednesday to light drizzle, mist and a chilly northeast breeze, with temperatures near 60 degrees. The gray start will stick around for most of the day, keeping the afternoon cool and damp by late-September standards.
Patchy drizzle is expected through late morning before isolated rain showers develop around midday and continue into the afternoon. The high should reach only about 64 degrees, with northeast winds near 9 mph, according to the National Weather Service Indianapolis.
More Showers Arrive Wednesday Night
Scattered showers could return Wednesday evening, with showers and renewed drizzle potentially continuing overnight past 2 a.m. Thursday. Skies will remain cloudy overnight, with temperatures settling near 57 degrees and northeast winds between 6 and 9 mph.
There are no watches, warnings or advisories listed for Indianapolis. Drivers should still expect damp pavement and a generally slow, gray commute while low cloud cover hangs over the city.
Clouds Break As The Weekend Gets Brighter
Thursday should be mostly cloudy, with highs most likely in the 60s and little chance for rain. The latest outlook is a wetter and cooler update from Tuesday's forecast, which had called for a mostly dry midweek stretch; Hoodline previously reported on the incoming cloud cover.
Friday brings the payoff: mostly sunny skies, a high near 72 and lighter east-northeast winds. Saturday should be similarly pleasant near 71, while Sunday stays partly sunny before temperatures climb toward the upper 70s Monday and the low 80s Tuesday.
Cool Nights Come With The Clearer Skies
The clearest evenings will also be the coldest, with lows near 50 Friday night. Early next week looks warmer and mostly dry, offering Indianapolis a gradual return to more comfortable outdoor weather after Wednesday's damp, decidedly unglamorous start.
