A 47-year-old man is in critical condition after being shot in the groin early Saturday on the 3600 block of South King Drive in Chicago's Douglas neighborhood, according to police. Officers found him lying on the ground when they responded to a person-shot call at about 3:29 a.m., and Chicago Fire Department medics treated him at the scene before rushing him to the hospital.
The shooting came amid a weekend in which at least eight people were hurt in shootings across Chicago, according to CBS Chicago. Police reported that victims in those weekend incidents ranged in age from 14 to 47, placing the Douglas shooting within a broader wave of gun violence. As the Chicago Sun-Times reported, the man was found with a gunshot wound to the groin and was listed in critical condition after being taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center.
