A man was found shot to death Monday morning on the 800 block of West 117th Street in Chicago's West Pullman neighborhood, police said. Officers responding to the scene found him suffering from multiple gunshot wounds throughout his body, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said the man was discovered at 8:33 a.m., according to CBS Chicago. Calumet Area detectives investigated the circumstances of the shooting Monday afternoon, and authorities have not released further details, including the victim's identity or any information about a possible suspect or motive.
The 800 block of West 117th Street sits within the Chicago Police Department's 5th District, known as Calumet, which covers West Pullman along with Washington Heights, Riverdale, Pullman, Roseland, and South Deering from its headquarters at 727 E. 111th Street, per the Chicago Police Department. Area Two detectives investigated shootings in the neighborhood, as Hoodline has reported.
A Familiar and Violent Stretch of West Pullman
Monday's shooting is only the latest instance of gun violence to hit this section of West Pullman. Just weeks earlier, on September 12, a 33-year-old man died after an argument turned deadly in the neighborhood, according to previous Hoodline coverage. In February, a 50-year-old man and his dog were both shot and wounded on the 300 block of East 117th Street after an assailant got out of a red sedan and opened fire.
The corridor's history of violence stretches back further still. A 25-year-old man suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the abdomen on the 600 block of West 117th Street. And in August, a 16-year-old boy was wounded on the nearby 11700 block of South Normal Avenue when multiple people jumped out of a vehicle and opened fire, Hoodline reported at the time.
Citywide Homicides Tick Up After Historic Low
The shooting comes even as Chicago has posted major gains against gun violence overall. The city recorded 397 homicides in 2025, a 30% decline from 565 in 2024 and its lowest annual total since 1965, according to a report from NORC at the University of Chicago.
Identification and Next Steps
The victim's identity had not been released as of Monday afternoon.
Police have not said whether Monday's shooting is connected to any of the other recent incidents along the 117th Street corridor. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Chicago police.
