Northbound Rider Collides With Turning Vehicle
According to FOX 13 News Utah, the motorcyclist was heading north on 5600 West when the crash occurred with a vehicle making a left turn from 2400 South. The driver of that vehicle was not injured and stayed at the scene to help investigators piece together what happened, the station reported.
Police told the outlet they are looking into whether speed may have been a factor in the crash, though that determination has not been finalized. The intersection was expected to close to all traffic for several hours as officers worked the scene, per the same report.
A Corridor Already Under Construction
The stretch of 5600 West running from 3100 South to SR-201 has been the site of an ongoing paving project, according to the Utah Department of Transportation. Roadwork on the corridor has been underway as crews resurface the busy West Valley City route that intersects with 2400 South.
The crash also lands during what safety officials have called the “100 deadliest days” stretch on Utah roads, a period tied to increased traffic fatalities statewide, according to KSL NewsRadio. No additional details about the identities of those involved, the vehicles, or the exact length of the road closure have been released.
