A person was struck and killed by a driver who fled the scene on Indianapolis's Near West Side. Police later tracked down and arrested the driver. The crash happened on West 16th Street between North Tibbs Avenue and North Centennial Street, and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to WIBC 93.1 FM, IMPD officers were called to that stretch of West 16th Street after the crash was reported as a hit-and-run involving injuries. The driver left the scene before officers arrived, and the person who was hit was later pronounced dead.
Investigation Still Active, No Suspect Named
WIBC reported that a speeding car struck another vehicle, pushed it through a gas station parking lot, and then hit the woman.
The victim's identity has not been released, and no further details about the timeline of the crash have been made public.
What Indiana Law Requires After a Crash
Indiana law lays out clear obligations for drivers involved in any crash. Under the state code as reproduced by FindLaw, a driver must immediately stop as close to the scene as possible and remain there.
