A pedestrian was struck by a train early Tuesday morning near a crossing at West 117th Street and Detroit Avenue, an incident that shut down rail crossings between Cleveland and Lakewood for more than an hour. The collision happened at about 4 a.m., snarling traffic along a stretch of the border between the two communities before crews cleared the scene.
According to FOX 8, the eastbound train came to a stop after the pedestrian was hit, blocking crossings from West 110th Street in Cleveland all the way to Bell Avenue in Lakewood. That stretch covers several intersections along the corridor, and drivers in both cities were left waiting as the train sat idle over the tracks.
Lakewood EMS transported the pedestrian to a nearby hospital, the station reported. As of Tuesday morning, there had been no word on the person’s condition.
Crossings Reopened by Mid-Morning
FOX 8 reporter Patty Harken reported that the blocked crossings reopened at about 5:30 a.m., roughly an hour and a half after the pedestrian was struck. The report did not specify what led up to the collision or who operates the train involved.
