Plainfield's second annual Sky Dance touches down next Saturday at the Al & Jan Barker Sports Complex, bringing free admission, a 90s cover band, and a custom drone show to close out the town's Quaker Days Weekend. Organizers are asking attendees to bring lawn chairs, blankets, friends, and family, with gates opening at 6:30 p.m. and the drone display expected to light up the sky around 8:45 p.m.
According to Town of Plainfield - Government, this year's headline act is Fool House – The Ultimate 90's Party, taking the stage at 7:00 p.m. The touring show blends a live cover band with a video DJ, pop-culture trivia, and red-carpet photo opportunities built around hits from artists like NSYNC, Britney Spears, and Blink-182, according to TicketWeb. The act's interactive set typically runs two hours of live 90s party anthems, per the same listing.
Sky Dance is only in its second year, but it has already changed venues. The event debuted in September 2025 at Hummel Park Performing Arts Center before relocating to the Barker Sports Complex for 2026, per Guilford Township & Hummel Park. That inaugural edition featured free tethered hot air balloon rides offered on a first-come, first-served basis, along with a live performance by U2 tribute band Without U2 and a custom drone light show, the same source notes.
Eighteen Vendors Line Up for Food and Drinks
The Facebook post lists 18 food and drink vendors spread across the grounds. The Brew Lab is serving popping boba, sweet lemonade, and fresh cold brew, while Fruit Monsters is dishing out fruit desserts with toppings. Chomp'z Food Truck is handling burgers and crispy tenderloins, and Kona Ice is offering colorful shaved ice with flavored toppings.
Rounding out the lineup are Frosti Pops, serving chocolate chip ice cream sandwiches and other frozen treats, and Hometown Mini Donuts, making its donuts to order. Sodeez is pouring custom iced drinks, and Books Bourbon & Bacon is serving Korean corn dogs, sandwiches, and fried brioche bites. Additional vendors include All American Grub, Pop-A-Kernal, Double D's Southern BBQ, CJ's Pizza, Grub House, Velarde Curations, Bex Mix, Mr. and Mrs. Hot Dog, Wing N Out, and Indy Beer Taps, which is serving beer and wine.
A 58-Acre Venue Built for Community Events
The Barker Sports Complex hosting this year's Sky Dance is a 58-acre facility that opened in April 2011 through a partnership between the Town of Plainfield, the Plainfield Optimist Club, and the State of Indiana, according to the town. It was named after former Public Service Indiana CEO Hugh “Al” Barker and his wife Jan. The complex is also home to Miracle Movers Field, a $750,000 universally designed synthetic baseball field opened in 2014 to serve athletes with special needs, built through a two-year fundraising effort led by local community organizations, per the Indiana Institute on Disability and Community.
Sky Dance Fits Into a Four-Day Quaker Days Celebration
Sky Dance is the Saturday evening highlight of Plainfield's broader Quaker Days Weekend, a festival running September 17 through 20, according to Visit Hendricks County. The tradition traces back to the 1970s, when it began as a “Church Mouse Sale,” and this year marks the 47th annual parade and craft festival at Plainfield Friends Church, held Saturday, September 19, with more than 100 craft booths and a car show supporting local charities.
The weekend opens Thursday with “Movies on Main” on the Friends Church lawn, showing How to Train Your Dragon and Footloose, followed by “Music on Main” live concerts on Friday, per the Plainfield Chamber of Commerce. It wraps up Sunday, September 20, with the 4th annual Back Your Badge Marathon, Half Marathon, and 5K, a race that generated over $15,000 in 2024 to fund EMT and paramedic scholarships, as Hoodline previously reported.
Traffic Alerts for Weekend Road Closures
With a parade, marathon, and drone show all packed into four days, Plainfield officials have set up a mobile text alert system for the weekend. Attendees are asked to text “QuakerDays” to 77295 for real-time traffic, weather, and emergency updates, according to the Town of Plainfield's Facebook page. Sky Dance itself remains free to attend, with organizers simply encouraging guests to bring their own seating and settle in before the drones take flight.
