Roscoe Village Neighbors' biggest event is almost here. Retro on Roscoe returns for its 31st edition September 18 through 20, 2026, transforming six blocks of West Roscoe Street between Damen Avenue and Leavitt Street into a sprawling street party built around classic cars, live music, and neighborhood pride.
What began decades ago as a modest one-to-two-block block party with roughly 50 attendees has grown into one of Chicago's marquee neighborhood festivals, according to Roscoe Village Neighbors. The event was originally created by local business owners Al Johnson of Menard Johnson & Associates and Colleen Flood of The Four Treys to build community connections among neighbors, the organization notes. This year, WGN-TV featured the festival on its Spotlight Chicago segment, describing it as a nostalgic event centered on classic cars, throwback music, and food, with the WGN-TV feature centered around Roscoe and Damen Avenue.
Vintage Cars Take Center Stage
The festival's signature draw remains its Antique and Classic Car Show, which lines Roscoe Street with more than 50 vintage and muscle cars spanning the 1950s through the 1980s, according to Summertime Chi. Car collectors from across the Midwest are expected to participate in the showcase, per the same guide. Beyond the cars, the festival's footprint includes three main entertainment stages and space for artisans and vendors spread across the six-block stretch.
The festival runs over three days in September, with the timing benefiting from milder late-summer weather. Special Events Management is mentioned in connection with the event and with Chicago street festivals and races.
Wells Fargo Signs On as Title Sponsor
The 2026 festival carries new corporate branding, running officially as Retro on Roscoe presented by Wells Fargo. The event also features a $15 suggested gate donation and vendors, according to the event's organizers. Summertime Chi describes general entry as free and notes the suggested donation.
That funding matters directly to the neighborhood. Retro on Roscoe serves as the primary annual fundraiser for Roscoe Village Neighbors, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that reinvests proceeds into streetscape improvements, park upgrades, and local school grants. The organization relies on more than 400 community volunteers to staff the festival each year. The festival is a Roscoe Village event.
A Boost for Local Storefronts
The festival's impact extends well beyond the nonprofit's balance sheet. The weekend street party features restaurants, vendors, and merchants during festival hours. Combined with the car show, vendor booths, and three stages of live music, the event offers a range of attractions along Roscoe Street.
WGN-TV's Spotlight Chicago segment, which airs weekdays from 1 to 2 p.m., featured Brian and Paul discussing the festival ahead of its 31st run, with more details available through the event's listing at chicagoevents.com/event/retro-on-roscoe. For a tradition that started with about 50 people on one or two blocks, its growth into a larger festival illustrates how far a simple block party has traveled.
