San Diego is waking up to coastal low clouds and fog Friday morning, but the heat is not finished yet. The city is headed for an afternoon near 86 degrees, with hot conditions continuing before a gradual weekend cooldown.
Heat Lingers Before Weekend Cooldown
Thursday's forecast called for coastal highs in the 80s and inland highs up to 108 degrees. The National Weather Service recommends drinking plenty of fluids, limiting strenuous activity and checking on relatives and neighbors.
Patchy fog is expected Friday morning. South winds will generally run 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph, while temperatures ease through the evening toward an overnight low near 71.
Foggy Mornings Return As Temperatures Fall
Friday night brings patchy fog after 11 p.m., and that coastal pattern will linger into Saturday morning. Saturday should be mostly sunny after the fog lifts, with a high near 81, followed by a cooler Sunday near 79 and Monday near 78.
The new forecast is a substantive shift from Thursday’s hotter conditions, which Hoodline reported were being accompanied by an Extreme Heat Warning along the coast. By Sunday, the most intense heat should be gone, although afternoons will remain warm enough for sunscreen, water and a little strategic shade.
Sunny Stretch Arrives Next Week
The forecast points to cooler weather into next week. Monday is expected to reach approximately 78 degrees, while overnight lows will mostly remain in the 60s and lower 70s near the coast and valleys.
A slight chance of showers or thunderstorms is possible over the mountains Thursday afternoon, while coastal low clouds and fog are expected Friday morning.
