A small plane crashed into Indian Chase Meadows Park in Bolingbrook on Tuesday evening, sending two people to the hospital and leaving investigators searching for answers. Bolingbrook fire and police personnel responded to the park just before 6:30 p.m., converging on a scene where the aircraft had come down with enough force to tear it apart.
Aircraft Left in Pieces at the Park
Both occupants of the plane were taken to Good Samaritan Hospital, according to CBS News, though the outlet reported their condition upon admission was unknown. A separate account from abc7chicago.com said both occupants were transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in stable condition. The ages and genders of the two occupants have not been released, and what caused the crash remained unclear in the immediate aftermath, per the same account.
The wreckage itself hinted at the violence of the impact. According to nbcchicago.com, the plane sustained significant damage, with a section of the aircraft bearing its tail number ripped into multiple pieces. Fire officials notified both the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board of the crash, and the two agencies are expected to investigate.
A 2013 Bolingbrook Crash
Tuesday's incident comes 13 years after another small plane went down in Bolingbrook on Sept. 25, 2013. A preliminary NTSB report found that the aircraft involved in the crash touched down several times on a runway in an attempted landing at Clow Airport before taking off again and diving into a nearby parking lot, according to cbsnews.com. That report, issued days after the crash, did not indicate what caused it.
The Sept. 25 crash killed pilot Narayan Venguswamy, 63, and his wife, Jay, of Georgetown, Kentucky, per the same cbsnews.com account. Witnesses said the plane struck a tree and a light pole before crashing and catching fire in the parking lot of a Chase bank branch at 262 South Weber Road. A separate report from wgntv.com described the passenger who died as a woman, and said the pilot was hospitalized with severe burns. The NTSB has said it could take up to 18 months to complete its final report on that crash.
