A 48-year-old South Shore man is facing three counts of attempted murder after Chicago police say he opened fire on three people in Kenwood in June, seriously wounding a 15-year-old boy. Shauntay Sardin was arrested Monday, more than three months after the shooting, and was due in court Tuesday for a detention hearing.

Police said Sardin opened fire on the three victims on June 20 in the 700 block of East 47th Street in Kenwood, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. The 15-year-old boy was shot and seriously injured, while the two other people targeted in the shooting were not struck by gunfire, per the same report. Sardin was charged with three counts of attempted murder as well as aggravated battery, police said.

The Chicago Police Department's 2nd District is headquartered at 5101 South Wentworth Avenue, according to the Illinois State Police. Kenwood itself sits within Chicago's 4th Ward, as noted by the Chicago Crusader.

Arrest Came Three Months Later in Grand Boulevard

Sardin was arrested Monday in the 5100 block of South Indiana Avenue, in the Grand Boulevard community area, according to a charge release from the Chicago Police Department.

Sardin lived in the 1900 block of East 72nd Place in South Shore. Police have not detailed what led detectives to Sardin months after the shooting, and it remains unclear whether he knew the three people he is accused of targeting.

Detention Hearing Set at Leighton Courthouse

Sardin's detention hearing was scheduled for Tuesday at the George N. Leighton Criminal Courthouse, located at 26th and California on the city's Southwest Side.

The outcome of that hearing, along with the current condition of the 15-year-old victim, has not been reported. The motive behind the June shooting also remains unknown.
